Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil (SOFA)

Welcome to SOFA, Creative and Friendly!

Silhouette of a Smith working

Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil (SOFA), an affiliate of ABANA, is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1977. Its founders, Emmert Studebaker, Larry Wood, and Bob Zeller were inspired by ABANA and former Ohio Artists Blacksmith Association to create an organization to preserve and promote the art of blacksmithing.

Informational and educational activities include workshops, demonstrations, and communications. We have a large library of videotaped demonstrations, newsletters, and various blacksmith publications, which are available for loan to any member, free of charge.

We look forward to seeing you at our monthly meetings or Wednesday night open-forging (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

Sneak Peek: QuadState 2015

Hi everybody, We have been getting some questions about Quadstate this year. So here is the super secret update. Quadstate is September 25, 26, and 27. That's right around the corner. The demonstrators are still a secret, but oh my goodness do we have an awesome show this year. The theme for the Gallery is a group project. SOFA is officially throwing down the gauntlet to every club, group, and gathering out there to enter this year. The project must teach a technique. It cannot have a footprint larger the 3'x5', it must fit in the building, and it must be stable, safe, and freestanding. A picture of everyone who participated as well as a brief description must also be provided. Many CASH awards will be provided. So get your groups together and start hammering. More info to follow soon. - Mike Roberts
