TRADITIONAL / COLONIAL LIGHTING

Kim started blacksmithing in 1985, spurred by the desire to make muzzle-loading long rifles using traditional methods from 200 years ago. Encouraged and guided by other smiths, he started out making simple items for trade at rendezvous'. His passion for working with metal has led him to all forms of blacksmithing, such as knifemaking, ornamental, repousse', medieval, early American, and contemporary design. Kim's work has appeared in Back Woodsman, Blade, Anvil's Ring, and Knives (1995 through 1999).

In 1995, Kim was chosen as one of the top 200 craftsmen in the United States by Early American Life and was featured in their August issue. He was chosen again in 1997 by Early American Homes, and most recently, in 2005 by Early American Life. In 1996, Kim's video, Forging Damascus, was chosen as the best Best Instructional Video at the ABANA Conference.

Kim, a founding member of the Western Reserve Artists and Blacksmiths Association, received the Association's lifetime achievement award, 'Blacksmith of the Year', in 2001. Currently, Kim has been commissioned to do several restorations of ironwork made by Samuel Yellin.
