HEAVY STRIKING AND FORGING

Both Tsur and Amit served a four-year apprenticeship with Uri Hofi. After their experiences of traveling and working with Hofi, they each opened a blacksmith shop in Israel. Besides running blacksmith shops, they both feel that teaching is an important part of an artist's life. Tsur has been a demonstrator at numerous ABANA events throughout the United States and teaches several times a year at the Ozark School of Blacksmithing in Potosi, MO. Amit has traveled and demonstrated throughout many parts of the world, including the United States.

At the conference, assisted by Tom Clark, both Tsur and Amit demonstrated and explained the art of striking, concentrating on upsetting, slitting and drifting, and the use of strikers to move metal. Their Friday evening demonstration began with the basics of how to communicate and work with a striker to perform tasks that cannot easily be done any other way. They began using one striker, then progressed to two, then three strikers, working simultaneously. After the initial demonstration Friday evening, the area remained open for audience participation. They continued to demonstrate forging heavy iron on Saturday.
