Originally from Boston, MA, Tom moved to Great Britain in 1984 to study blacksmithing at the age of 20. He served his apprenticeship and Cosira course training while living in northern England. Tom continued to work as a journeyman smith doing projects throughout the U.K. and France. Later, he returned to the USA to work in the Yellin shop in Philadelphia before it closed. From there, he moved onto Les Metalliers Champhenois.

Since 1997, Tom have been living and working in New York specializing in architectural metal in all designs. He also manages a small non-ferrous foundry using sandcasting techniques for in-house and local craftsman. During the SOFA conference, Tom demonstrated architectural forging techniques with several "how did they do that?" solutions.
